Since 2007, AITEX has been accredited as a Notified Body to certify the Fire Performance of Construction Materials according to Council Directive 89/106/EEC, transposed to Spanish legislation through Royal Decree 314/2006, and Spanish regulations contained in the Technical Building Code which establish the minimum essential characteristics which the materials used should possess.

Materials used in buildings, such as coverings for walls, ceilings and floors, are subject to the European Directive; its characterisation of fire performance is considered to have been harmonised within the Member States.

Furthermore, interior decorating materials used in public building projects, despite being excluded from the terms of the directive, are covered by European standards regulated in some Member States.
