The use of polymers taken from renewable resources offers new possibilities for the textile sector. For example, the extrusion of polylactic acid (PLA), polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), thermoplastic starch (TPS) and different combinations for applications as diverse as home textiles or in technical markets such as geotextiles or the automobile industry, are gaining ground over other ‘commodity’ polymers in certain applications. In this regard, formulations modified with plastifying agents are optimised in order to achieve textile fibres.
