VALHABITAT 2019 – Market and product trends in the private and public habitat sectors

Year: 2019

MOTIVATION

The HABITAT sector, which includes furniture, lighting, ceramics and textiles, is looking for new settings, new scenarios in which to contribute ideas, products and innovative functionalities. Our way of life is changing and the emerging society wants public spaces to feel the same way as our homes.

The contract sector has undergone major changes in recent years. On the one hand, the diversity of business models in gastronomy, hotels and retail is creating greater demand for designers. The space around us must not only respond to a specific functionality and design aesthetic, but must be able to create a brand, generate a unique model and create links with consumers. Hence, the contract sector’s increasing focus on the development of their products for future users.

In addition to trends, there are other issues concerned with business and marketing, which are influencing contract spaces.

The contract sector is adapting to new niches in its search for new business models: gastronomy plays a fundamental role when it comes to connecting with new generations of consumers.

For its part, the restaurant is increasingly becoming a space for healthy living, social gathering and experimentation, where interior design is critical. The retail sector has been shaken to its core by online sales and the digital world. The high street store will not disappear, but it is mutating in leaps and bounds, just like our shopping centres, which are trying to recover from the loss of steam they suffered and rethinking how to adapt to the demands of new lifestyles.

This project aims to contribute, in our particular case, to companies in the Home Textile sector, and provide new ideas for products, spaces and consumer types to help their adaptation to the contract spaces, starting from ideas that have emerged from the TRENDS BOOK FOR EL HABITAT 19/20. One of these trends reveals that “users have access to better quality information and demand simplicity of use, quality, sustainability and interaction with the user”, and this will lead to the generation of new materials, multifunctional design and the development of more emotive open spaces.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective is to research, analyse, manage and transfer trends to develop products for the HABITAT sector.

The main focus of the Trends being studied is HABITAT and more specifically products for interiors, which are influenced by society (socio-cultural technological factors) and whose development will have an impact on a given market.

During 2019, work will include:

  • A range of activities designed to transfer knowledge to companies in the habitat sector through tailor-made workshops, based on the trend booklet and the work prepared in 2018. Once the 19/20 HABITAT TRENDS BOOK has been presented to the sectors involved in interior design during February, other workshops for different sectors will be run at which we will work with companies with these trends to develop new products. We will work with Feria Valencia Trends for the Textile – Home sector, with the aim of developing products that can be exhibited at the TEXTILE HOME PREMIUM by Textil Hogar, which will be held in September 2019 in the EL CUBO venue.

  • Research into trends in contract spaces: hotels and restaurants, draft concepts, editing and presentation “MONOGRAPH: TRENDS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF HABITAT- CONTRACT PRODUCTS “. With the information gathered in 2019, by each IT member of the Habitat Trend Observatory, group meetings will be held to extrapolate and analyse the trends we have observed in these contract spaces. This will continue throughout April and June and the final draft of the monograph will be published in November 2019
  • Research into product trends, sociocultural and market keys for the TRENDS BOOK 21/22. Research will continue during 2019 and half of 2020 on socio-cultural and market trends and keys to analyse, synthesise and publish by the end of 2020.
  • Design and update of the OTH platform and blog. The website is a means of publicising all the activities carried out by the OTH and must evolve and adapt to the new IT tools, making it simpler and more accessible.

EXPECTED RESULTS

During 2019, we intend that the VALHABITAT project becomes a place for the generation of ideas and products for companies in the TEXTIL HOGAR sector and that the tools born by the project become S.O.P. for manufacturers, and are innovative, easy to use and points of reference for the industry.

  1. Transfer activities: workshops, seminars and courses designed to enable manufacturers to exhibit their products at the PREMIUM HOME TEXTILE FAIR BY TEXTIL HOME and collaboration with Feria Valencia in the development of home textile trends.
  2. MONOGRAPH: TRENDS IN CONTRACT PRODUCTS.
  3. New OTH platform.
