The need to create more sustainable and environmentally friendly textiles for the home and fashion has encouraged AITEX to focus its research on R+D projects in these two markets.
The Institute is working on the research and development of the following projects:
BULKY
The general objective of the BULKY project is to enhance and optimise the physical properties (brightness, softness and resilience) of recycled polypropylene, polyamide and polyester multifilaments from renewable bio-based sources (PLA, PBT, PA1010, etc.) for use in Bulk Continuous Filament (BCF) technology in carpet manufacturing.
The successful outcome of this project will enable AITEX to create environmentally friendly filaments with improved mechanical properties of brightness, resilience and softness to replace commercially available PP, PA and acrylic fibres used in BCF.In addition, the project will develop a range of consumer prototypes, such as components for carpets, outdoor fabrics, automotive fabrics, filtration, etc.
This project is funded by la Conselleria d’Economia Sostenible, Sectors Productius, Comerç i Treball de la Generalitat Valenciana, through IVACE, and co-funded through the EU’s ERDF within the ERDF programme of Comunitat Valenciana 2014-2020.

BIOMATTER 2019
The core goal of the BIOMATTER 2019 project is the development of new highly sustainable products for the fashion and home textile industries.
As a result of the research carried out in this project, upholstery prototypes using sustainable imitation leather materials such as purses and belts and prototypes of clothing, non-woven fabrics and laminated solutions with a pleasing, functional finish will be developed.
This project is funded by la Conselleria d’Economia Sostenible, Sectors Productius, Comerç i Treball de la Generalitat Valenciana, through IVACE.
