MOTIVATION
According to a report carried out in 2020 by WIN (Worldwide Independent Network Of Market Research), 46% of people surveyed thought the most important aspect in day-to-day life worldwide after the family, is healthy living. This includes issues like diet and exercise [1]. In Spain, 79% of the population considers itself healthy, according to a study carried out by DYM – Market Research [2], so there is a clear tendency in society to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Technology is constantly evolving, and in the field of health and wellbeing it is leading to the emergence of new health services that help to improve the quality of life of users.
Considering that there is a clear trend in society towards health, it is vital to obtain instant information on the health and physical conditions of users. Through wearables and new technologies, users will be able to view data which will allow them to change their habits or visit a specialist to help prevent illness.
The use of new technologies for health and wellbeing brings benefits to society such as:
- Increasing early diagnosis.
- Increased prevention over treatment.
- Reducing healthcare costs.
- Faster and easier detection of diseases through monitoring and analysis of data collected over the years.

OBJECTIVES
Thanks to technological advances, it is possible to use smart textiles and wearable devices to carry out remote and continuous monitoring.
The majority of the population is health-conscious, so working on certain aspects related to the behaviour and physical conditions of users is key to improving their well-being. Achieving this goal requires objective, simple and accessible monitoring of different areas of human behaviour.
In this sense, AITEX proposes the BIENESMART 2021 project, whose main objective is the development of textile solutions that monitor vital signs and physiological parameters through the integration of sensors in everyday textile garments to improve wellbeing and health.
EXPECTED RESULTS
The expected result of this project is the development of textile garments with integrated sensors that simplify data collection of a range of variables, including activity and vital signs. The collated data will be sent to an app for displaying.
This project is funded by the Conselleria d’Economia Sostenible, Sectors Productius, Comerç i Treball de la Generalitat Valenciana, through IVACE, and is co funded by ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) from the European Commission within the framework of the Operational Programme ERDF for the Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027.
