R&D OF CELL CULTURES FOR PRODUCT EFFICACY TESTING STUDIES
CELLCARE II
Motivation
Interest in in vitro cell culture is growing not only in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors but in the cosmetic sector, thanks to advances towards more realistic models that allow better prediction of how the body will respond to a product.
In vitro tests are an interesting alternative to classical in vivo methods for evaluating biological characteristics of ingredients and finished products. Since the beginning of 2013, any cosmetic product on sale anywhere must not have been tested on animals. For other types of products (medicines, medical devices or chemical substances), the use of in vitro tests makes it possible to limit the use of animals and is very useful in screening phases.
Objectives
- Validate the three-dimensional human dermo-epidermal model to determine the irritant or corrosive capacity of a product.
- Standardise efficacy tests for cosmetic claims by quantifying collagen and elastin.
- To develop a non-woven facial mask with functionalised hydrogels (cosmetotextile).
- Improve natural cosmetic formulations with plant stem cells.
Expected results
-
Validation of the human dermo-epidermal model.
-
Quantification of collagen and elastin in cosmetic products.
-
Cosmetotextile mask with functionalised hydrogels.
-
Cosmetic formulas with plant stem cells.
