R&D INTO NANOFIBER VEILS FOR MEDICAL AND HYGIENIC APPLICATIONS
NANOAPPLY
Motivation
After the results obtained in previous years, the NANOAPPLY project was born to provide solutions to the needs of companies in the health sector through the use of nanofibers with different applications. The MEDIC@TEX and MEDICA@TEX II projects developed respiratory protection masks with FFP-2 and RFU FFP-3 levels, surgical and hygienic through the use of nanofibers as a filter element. On the other hand, the DENTALTEX and DENTALTEX II projects developed a device for periodontal treatment tested at in vitro level, while the REPAIR project concluded with a clinical case on wound regeneration in burn patients. The SANICAPS project was based on the research and development of superabsorbent nanofibers, arousing the interest of some leading companies in the continence products sector.
Objectives
- Development of sustainable compostable solutions based on the use of nanofibers and analyze their scalability at an industrial level.
- Development of a new dental regenerative product based on the use of functionalized nanofibers.
- Development of superabsorbent solutions for continence products in direct collaboration with specialized companies to be able to transfer results and generate new direct collaboration projects.
Expected results
-
Line 1. SUSTAINABILITY. Research into the electro-spinning of sustainable and compostable biomaterials and their scalability to industrial level, through direct transfer and the active participation of specialist companies.
-
Line 2. TISSUE REGENERATION. Manufacture, optimisation and validation of functional nanofibre coatings on titanium implants to improve tissue regeneration, preventing infections under medical guidelines and in vitro and in vivo analysis in animal models.
-
Line 3. SUPERABSORBENCY. To develop absorption products based on superabsorbent nanofibre veils capable of reducing the thickness and weight of commercial continence and/or exudate products, without reducing their absorption capacity, and to enable the direct transfer of results to manufacturers for their industrial process through concept tests and prototype development.
