R&D INTO IMPROVED COMFORT AND BREATHABILITY IN TEXTILE SUBSTRATES FOR TECHNICAL CLOTHING
BREATH
Motivation
Breathability and comfort are two essential technical requirements when manufacturing technical sports and work clothing. The aim is to obtain from lightweight fabrics with high technical capabilities that keep the wearer cool and comfortable throughout the day.
The objective of the project is to develop a methodology to inform producers of the influence that the modification of key parameters (raw materials, count, texturising, cross-section, thickness, weight, structure and weave) has on the final fabric during production. Depending on the required purpose of the product, it will be possible to optimise the fabrics following the indications of the technical document produced.
Objectives
• Investigation into the behaviour of different materials for fabric development.
• Development of texturised yarns using various technologies (DTY/ATY) to increase fabric comfort.
• Theoretical and pilot plant weaving study of the different materials, weaves and structures.
• Obtaining fabrics with optimised breathability and comfort using various weaving technologies.
• Characterisation of breathability and comfort properties to quantify the levels offered by the fabric.
• Compliance with current regulations on breathability and comfort.
Expected results
-
To create fabrics from different base materials.
-
To create comfortable texturised yarns for the production of fabrics.
-
Fine-tuning yarn processing and weaving to optimise the manufacturing process of the different fabrics according to their final use.
-
To create breathable comfortable fabrics.
-
To optimize the results of breathability and comfort characterisation tests.
-
Compliance with current regulations on breathability and comfort.
-
To create technical prototypes of sports and work fabrics.
