DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES TO IMPROVE PROCESS AND RESOURCE EFFICIENCY IN THE TEXTILE VALUE CHAIN AND SECTORS OF APPLICATION.
EFFI-TEX 2
Motivation
Within the context of improving the sustainability of the textile production chain and Industry 4.0, technological disruption is proving to be a central element in addressing new challenges, while creating new opportunities for the regional and national textile sector.
It is evident that among the priorities for the sector are innovation in new technologies to create new processes, materials and products and enhance existing ones. In addition to resolving an imminent need, it is clear that the sector shows great scope for the creation of new products that will help the industry to provide increasingly well-informed consumers with the solutions they are demanding.
Objectives
The EFFI-TEX2 project was designed to transfer the results of previous research carried out within the AITEX Textile Research Institute to the industry, as well as new technologies appearing in the textile sector that can be adapted to different industrial processes, through a process of applied R&D.
To this end, technical studies, analysis and validation of technological solutions for the sector were proposed, with the aim of developing up to four demonstrators with our collaborators in different areas of the textile value chain, focusing on the processes involved in the adaptation and validation of the proposed new technological solutions.
Expected results
-
Demonstrator 1. Development of a new technological solution for rope dyeing and finishing processes using micronebulisation.
The first demonstrator will use the results obtained in the previous year of the EFFITEX project, in which a new technology capable of performing dyeing and finishing processes on rope using micro-nebulisation technology was developed and patented. The objective of this year’s project will focus on the design, manufacture and validation of a dyeing machine specially built for the application of this new technological solution.
-
Demonstrator 2. Development of a novel technology for twisting and ring spinning machines to process technical and complex fibres.
The execution of the second demonstrator will enable the production of technical and special fibres with twisting technology, which currently pose many problems in the industry, making their production unfeasible. This milestone was achieved thanks to the modification of existing twisting machines with an innovative system that modifies and adjusts the length of the ball to the properties of the yarn, thereby reducing the tensions generated in the process and the energy expenditure due to yarn-machine friction. The breakthrough will enable manufacturers who use twisting technology to broaden their product portfolio, while offering an advantage in the yarn handling sector.
-
Demonstrator 3. Development of processing techniques for multi-laminate biomaterials using dry lamination technologies.
The third of the demonstration exercises considered in the project will consider the use of double-loom lamination technology for the manufacture of supported biomaterials, specifically of microbial or fungal faux leather materials. This technology has been selected because it is a highly efficient method for developing laminates from biomaterials manufactured in discontinuous production.

Demonstrator 4. Smart textiles: the industrialisation of the technique of introducing electronic elements through embroidery.
The fourth pilot project will focus on the industrialisation of introducing electronic elements through embroidery. AITEX has vast experience in the development of research projects in the field of Smart textiles, and a common need in our projects is that of solving the difficulty of the industrialisation and marketing of these products. The idea here is to attempt to bridge the gap between the development of innovative products and their subsequent commercialisation, using embroidery to insert functional sequins such as sensors or LED elements.
