AERONAUTICS

It is crucial to aircraft safety that the textiles used in the passenger cabin possess excellent fire behaviour to prevent fire propagation and smoke toxicity in the event of a fire inside an aircraft.

AITEX analyses and researches upholstery, flooring and auxiliary textile elements used on aircraft seating, blankets and cushions, among others. In addition to ensuring the safety of aircraft crew and passengers, we strive to improve the comfort and ergonomics of textiles and the comfort of long-haul flights

LABORATORIES

AUTOMOTIVE AND TRANSPORT LABORATORY

AITEX’s Automotive and Transport Laboratory provides suppliers and manufacturers of aircraft cabin components with a fully-integrated suite of testing and development services: QA, durability, safety, security and sustainability.

We certify aeronautical tests, horizontal combustibility and classify a material’s fire resistance and performance.

FIRE PERFORMANCE LABORATORY

In our fire behaviour laboratory, we analyse and test the fire behaviour of materials used for the manufacture of aircraft components.

We carry out continuous assessments of the materials used in aircraft; their ease of ignition, the quantity and opacity of smoke emitted in the event of fire and its level of toxicity.

R&D PROJECTS IN THE AERONAUTICS MARKET

Project HONEYTEX

High-performance honeycombs are expensive and difficult to recycle.

The core objective of HONEYTEX is to design and construct a semi-industrial scale continuous thermo-compression plant for the development of a new generation of honeycombs, the optimisation of the manufacturing process and improvements in mechanical performance and cost of the new materials.

These new cores differ from commercially available alternatives in the nonwoven base material used for its development.

TRAINING

The Institute organises courses for manufacturers in the in the aeronautics industry who need highly specialised technical training. The courses are face-to-face or online and taught by a highly qualified professional team.

OTHER MARKETS

At AITEX, we respond to the challenges and needs of companies working in different textile sectors and related markets.
