The EU has set a limit for hexachlorobenzene under the recast POPs Regulation. The new law entered into force on 13th December 2022
On 23rd November 2022, the EU issued Regulation (EU) 2022/2291 of 8th September 2022 to amend the Persistent Organic Pollutants Regulation, setting a limit value for unintentional trace contaminants (UTC) of 10 mg/kg for HCB to clarify legal aspects and facilitate enforcement.

The European Commission has identified hexachlorobenzene as an impurity in certain substances, mixtures or articles, including chlorinated solvents, coatings, inks, paints and tonics, pesticides, textile and wood applications and plastics.
The date of entry into force was 13th December 2022, after the twentieth day of its publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
