The head houses vital organs which may be exposed to risks such as impacts, blows or falls. To prevent these hazards, PPE such as helmets are designed to protect the wearer’s head from mechanical impact, falling objects, electrical contact and flame.
They protect the top of the wearer’s head and depending on the type of protection, have specific requirements.

Protective helmets must meet the technical criteria contained in EU Regulation 2016/425 on Personal Protective Equipment in order to be marketed in the European Union.

Protective helmets can be classified according to categories II or III, depending on the risks from which they protect the user. Depending on the category to which the helmet or head protector belongs, it must undergo different conformity assessment procedures for its certification.
