R&D OF SMART TEXTILE ELEMENTS FOR THE MOBILITY AND TRANSPORT SECTOR
TRANSPORTER
Motivations
The TRANSPORTER project aims to address the development of high-performance composite materials that incorporate functional technologies in all types of fabrics using TFP (Tailored Fiber Placement) embroidery technology. TFP was chosen to develop customised textile structures, as it allows the fibres to be positioned in the most appropriate orientation depending on the type and shape of the component, but emphasis will also be placed on integrating smart elements to provide these pieces with specific functions. During the TRANSPORTER project, functional parts will be developed for the goods and urban mobility sectors.
On the other hand, work will be carried out on the development of textile solutions with conductive ink printing technology, with functional obstacle detection capabilities, while evaluating the possibility of developing heatable circuits for the transport sector.
Objectives
- Develop functional fabrics using TFP for use in the manufacture of composite materials
- Develop technical embroidery for use as structural reinforcement in the development of thermosetting and thermoplastic composites.
- Evaluate the substitution of contaminating fibres such as carbon fibre or glass fibre with natural fibres, and identify possible applications of these components.
- Develop smart composites by RTM for technologies that do not allow processing at high temperature and pressure, and by thermoforming for technologies that do.
- Developing textile solutions with functional capabilities such as identifying movement, or presence, for vehicle interiors.
- Study the feasibility of integrating components printed with conductive inks in composite materials to allow functions such as heating and presence sensors.
Expected results

Textile articles that can capture data of interest to the user and which can be integrated into composite elements by thermoforming processes.

Smart textiles with obstacle detection functionality and an assessment of the feasibility of their incorporation into composite materials.

Textiles capable of sensing presence by integrating conductive embroidery or ink printing for installation on structural elements of vehicles.

Textiles such as an interactive composite with the ability to detect pressure distributed across a surface, or even gestures.

Development of lightweight structural components that are sustainable and functional.
