RESEARCH INTO PROCESSES FOR OBTAINING AND VALIDATING NATURAL ACTIVE INGREDIENTS IN THE COSMETICS SECTOR
BIOACTIVE
Motivations
Within this natural trend, one of the movements that stands out the most is upcycling, which consists of the revaluation of environmental waste. In the case of the cosmetics sector it focuses on the use of discarded ingredients from the food industry.
The current needs of the sector have led to the need for the execution of this project, with the aim of transferring knowledge to companies on the optimisation of processes for obtaining and stabilising natural active ingredients, as well as the development of effective natural cosmetic formulas. This will provide customers with an entry point into the growing world of sustainable and ecological cosmetics.
Objectives
Optimisation of the extraction and fermentation processes of natural sources to obtain high added value active ingredients in cosmetics, and their subsequent incorporation into cosmetic matrices to demonstrate their compatibility, safety and efficacy in final products. The execution of the project involves the optimisation of extraction and fermentation processes to obtain high added-value plant-based active ingredients and their incorporation into safe and effective cosmetic bases, contributing to the generation of a solid knowledge base that can be passed on to companies in the sector.
Value and competitive advantage
-
Obtaining sustainable and effective cosmetic products through the incorporation of ingredients derived from the reuse of natural sources.
-
Generating synergy between extraction companies and cosmetic companies by developing effective formulations.
-
Implementation of sensory and in vitro analysis studies that support the results of objective efficacy studies.
Results obtained
Multifunctional active ingredients have been obtained through the optimization of extraction and encapsulation processes. The project has been divided into four key areas:
-
Lines 1 and 2: Focused on the extraction of active ingredients from natural sources such as pomegranate bark, banana peel, artichoke, grapes, coffee grounds, and olive fermentation brine.
-
Line 3: Dedicated to formulation and industrial scaling of the developed products.
-
Line 4: Evaluation of the functionality of the active ingredients through efficacy studies conducted with users under dermatological supervision.
