APPLICATION OF ELECTRIC FIELD TECHNOLOGY IN TEXTILE DYEING AND FINISHING PROCESSES.
E-COLOUR
Motivations
The use of functionalising materials in textiles is a growing line of research of great interest to industry. Several commercial developments have shown interest in garments with anti-stain, anti-microbial and flame retardant properties, among others.
Thus, the industry’s interest in using functionalising materials that extend the performance of traditional textile products, together with the undeniable shift in the industry towards the development of more environmentally friendly products. This has created a need for a project to evaluate the possibilities offered by electric field impregnation technology for sustainable dyeing and functionalisation of yarns with applications in the clothing sector.
Objectives
The main objective of the E-COLOUR project is to investigate the potential of electric field impregnation technology for the dyeing and functionalisation of yarns. The aim is to develop an alternative yarn treatment process to traditional processes, based on the use of water and chemicals, leading to the production of a new type of dyed, functionalised yarns with low environmental impact for the clothing sector.
In order to achieve the core objective, the specific technical objectives include: identification and selection of ideal dyestuffs for use within the framework of the project. As well as obtaining sustainable solutions applied to the clothing industry, development of prototypes of dyed yarns and functionalized by conventional dyeing technology and electric field treatment technology, among others.
Value and competitive advantage
-
Ability to color fibers without the use of water.
-
Absence of auxiliary compounds in post-treatment.
-
Creation of functional textiles that are directly usable in the textile industry, without compromising the sustainability of the process.
-
Potential of electric field technology to revolutionize textile production toward more environmentally friendly practices that meet the demands of today’s industry.
Results obtained
-
Fiber coloration in shades of red, yellow, blue, and a combination of these to achieve a brown tone through trichromy.
-
Functionalization of threads with conventional finishes.
-
Creation of fabrics using the treated threads.
