The Spanish textile and innovation sector is advancing at a breakneck pace, led by initiatives and projects that are making a huge difference in the industry. During 2023, AITEX completed 291 research and development projects, working closely with 409 companies and 164 entities. Of the R&D projects completed in 2023 with public funds, thirty-seven are from the Valencian Community, fourteen from Europe and two from CDTI Cervera.
This is remarkable growth compared to previous years, evidencing a clear focus of the Centre on applied innovation in both the textile and cosmetics sectors.
Themed work lines in which AITEX was involved in 2023
2023 work lines ranged from the development of composites for furniture and decoration, using recycled textile waste, to the creation of acoustic insulation systems with three-dimensional textile structures. There were also significant advances in the improvement of textile properties, such as fire resistance and antibacterial characteristics.
In addition, research into composite materials and biotechnology is opening up new possibilities, with the formulation of more environmentally friendly resins and the creation of alternative materials to PET. A notable example is the development of leather-like materials from alginate and agro-industrial waste.
The integration of emerging technologies, such as electronic printing on textiles, is enabling the development of smart textile products, incorporating sensors for various applications, improving textile functionality while opening up exciting possibilities in design and usability.
In terms of sustainability, significant efforts are being made to incorporate eco-friendly processes in the industry. This includes the use of agri-food waste for dyeing processes, and the development of sustainable detergents, reducing the textile industry’s environmental footprint.
Finally, market research and trend analysis are fundamental to understanding the evolution of the sector. These studies reflect the importance of keeping up to date with market needs and preferences, ensuring that the textile industry is not only innovative but also relevant and in tune with current demands.
