New high-performance functionalised materials
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW SUSTAINABLE RESINS FOR APPLICATION IN THE COMPOSITES INDUSTRY
GREEN COMP
Motivation
The composite materials industry requires eco-design solutions that enable future recyclability to satisfy the needs of sectors with extreme technical requirements such as aerospace, the wind industry and construction among others. The prototypes will be developed for use mainly in the wind energy industry; however, they also have uses in other sectors such as the car industry. In this sense, the composite materials sector is researching various ways to reduce its environmental impact, some of which will be considered in this project.
Objectives
The R&D project aims to develop tools and solutions to reduce the environmental impact of the composite materials industry by researching and developing new composites using sustainable materials such as chemically reversible resins (recyclable or thermoplastic), sustainable fabrics, new economically and energetically advantageous composite curing processes, novel and Eco-friendly cores.
Expected results
- Development and optimisation of the composite curing process by microwave radiation
- Formulation of resins for microwave curing
- Approach and development of the manufacturing process of composite materials by BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound).
- Application of new sustainable materials in a conventional process such as BMC.
- Obtaining composite materials by different manufacturing processes (Infusion, RTM, BMC + Injection, Thermocompression, etc.).
