Advanced manufacturing, smart textiles and digitalisation
R&D OF PRINTED ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGIES TO DEVELOP SMART TEXTILES AND INTEGRATED SENSORS.
PRINTEX 2024
Motivation
Electronic printing is a revolutionary technology that is gaining ground owing to the fact that it makes the manufacture of lightweight flexible devices such as sensors, actuators and electronic circuits much more feasible by using printing techniques such as screen printing, flexography, direct ink writing and even inkjet.
Electronic printing has a significant impact on various sectors including healthcare, automotive, logistics and gamification, underlining its relevance and potential to transform traditional technologies and improve technological integration in our daily lives.
Given the growing interest and expanding use of wearable devices, it is becoming ever more important to intensify research in the field and address challenges such as reducing size and weight, improving wear and tear and wash fastness and lowering production costs.
These advances would enable the creation of products that are more accessible and comfortable.
Objectives
- Develop printed electronic solutions with various technologies and enable easier prototyping. With the aim to seek further developments in the field of body analysing sensors and develop sensors to detect new substances.
- Expand into other areas such as packaging, the creation of different types of sensors, and the generation and storage of energy through electronic printing.
Expected results
- Develop and obtain electrochemical biosensors monitor body analytes
- Develop and obtain sensors to detect harmful substances
- Apply EAS, RFID and NFC printed circuits to different types of surfaces
- Use of piezoelectrics for sensing and energy generation and storage
- Mass production of circuits using flexography
