Circular economy and sustainability
ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS II
E-MICROPLAST
Motivation
The presence of microplastics (MPS) in the environment and their potential impact on health and ecosystems is a growing concern. Although wastewater treatment systems remove most microplastics, some still reach rivers and seas, polluting natural ecosystems.
This project aims to address the problem of textile microplastics through innovative solutions throughout the entire production chain. These innovations will be tailored to the specific needs of each company, enabling the sector to increase its sustainability and competitiveness and promote the reuse of waste within the circular economy.
Objectives
- Validate and implement technologies that enable the revaluation of industrial effluents to provide a more circular value chain model, reducing water consumption and eliminating pollutants.
- Identification, measurement and elimination of microplastics and emerging pollutants in wastewater.
- Removal of pollutants by anaerobic digestion and bioremediation.
- Integrated water cycle management in industry.
Expected results
- Obtaining more efficient, economical and low polluting alternatives to the materials currently being used for the retention of pollutants.
- Removal of microplastics from industrial effluents through anaerobic digestion.
- Removal of microplastics in sludge by three types of technologies: anaerobic digestion, vermicomposting and thermal hydrolysis.
- Feasibility of recycling water from wastewater treatment plants.
