RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF 3D TEXTILE STRUCTURES USING TUFTING FOR THE CONTRACT FURNISHING SECTOR
ROOM TEX
Motivation
Sound is what we interpret from sound waves entering our ear, while noise is unpleasant, unwanted, annoying and highly subjective. Excessive sound, which disturbs the normal environment is considered noise pollution.
We are surrounded in the modern world by devices which emit sounds which increase noise pollution, particularly in enclosed spaces where acoustic reverberation caused by reflected sound is bothersome if the space has not been appropriately soundproofed.
The main drawback of typical acoustic solutions is finding a suitable location for them due to the architectural concept of open spaces and large windows. Carpets and rugs placed on the floor with self-adhesive component are a complement to carpets are more appropriate as design and comfort elements and are comfortable to walk on but must provide thermal insulation and in many projects provide noise absorption, increasing the quality of life of the occupants. This project aims to boost the carpet sector’s competitiveness.
Objectives
The main objective is 3D sustainable materials with sound-absorbing properties using tufting technology with uses in the contract sector.
- Carpets with FR properties either in the yarn, the carpet or by lamination of barrier materials
- Research and development in the application of adhesives that allow the process to be reversed to separate materials of different composition at the end of their useful life.
- Application of Bio materials (adhesive cores) to increase the sustainability of the final product
Expected results
- Development of mono-material carpets
- Development of sound-absorbent carpets
- Development of adhesives and lamination
- Functionalisation of FR prototypes
- Involve more companies in the implementation of the project as a result of knowledge transfer and publication.
