The international OEKO-TEX® association has continued to demonstrate positive business growth, highlighting the vital role of close collaboration and shared commitment in accelerating sustainable change. The biggest milestone for OEKO-TEX® in 2024 is that the number of certificates and labels has exceeded 50,000, an increase of 22% compared to the previous year.

OEKO-TEX® has once again recorded a positive business development: More than 50,000 certificates and labels were issued between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024, an increase of 22% compared to the previous year.

For the first time, there are more than 40,000 chemical products certified with OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT. This reflects the industry’s growing commitment to cleaner and safer textile and leather production. Chemicals certified with ECO PASSPORT comply with global regulations, including the REACH Directive, the ECHA Candidate List and the US CPSIA.

OEKO-TEX® ORGANIC COTTON certification, introduced in 2023 with strict supply chain traceability requirements, saw the first finished products on the market in January 2024. In addition, the limit value for genetically modified organisms (GMOs) was reduced from 10% to 5%, resulting in a significant tightening of purity and quality requirements.

More than 40,000 certified chemicals

The textile industry is increasingly committed to cleaner and safer textile and leather production. A 66% growth of OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT certified chemicals has been achieved.

Higher purity requirements

The limit value for genetically modified organisms (GMO) in the latest certification, OEKO-TEX® ORGANIC COTTON, has been reduced from 10% to 5%.

52% + valid MADE IN GREEN labels

Last year, OEKO-TEX® MADE IN GREEN was the main growth driver, with more than 16,600 valid certificates and labels.

As regulatory challenges intensify, OEKO-TEX® has continuously adapted its certifications to ensure that they continue to meet evolving requirements. To address the ban on polyfluorinated substances (PFAS/PFCs), OEKO-TEX® took proactive steps to generally prohibit the intentional use of these substances.
