FUTURMODA is the international trade fair for components, leather goods, textiles and machinery for footwear and leather goods. The fair has become Spain’s meeting point for anyone interested or working in footwear, habitat, textiles, clothing, fashion and the latest trends in the sector.

AITEX used the Futurmoda platform to present all the advances and innovations we are working on. As always, the Institute underlined the fact that all of our R&D projects and more than ninety experimental plants are available for use and exploitation by footwear and fashion companies. At Futurmoda, we presented our sustainable leather solutions, new 3D knitting technologies for the footwear sector, high performance and eco fibres and 3D textile structures for the development of insoles.

Additionally this year, we were proud to present the MY-Fi project “Reinventing a smart, circular and competitive textile industry with advanced microfibres”. The aim of the R&D project is to provide the textile industry with new nonwovens from mycelium fibres obtained by the fungal fermentation of certain waste materials, with improved performance and reduced environmental impact compared to currently available commercial fibres.

Eduardo Fages Santana, Head of the R&D, Sustainability and Materials Technology Group at AITEX gave a talk on Thursday 6 October at the Futurmoda Experts Forum on sustainability applied to the development of footwear components with low environmental impact.
