The project, with a duration of 36 months, started on January 1st 2023 and first technical actions will be described and carried out during the next project meeting to be held in Seville (Spain) on February 21st and 22nd, hosted by the Coordinator IDENER. Up to 13 partners are involved in this initiative, coming from 9 European countries.
Along PROPLANET – Enhanced Safe and Sustainable Coatings for Supporting the Planet AITEX is in charge of the coordination of the Work Package 4, and the validation of the technical properties of the sustainable coatings on textiles, pieces of machinery and glass: liquid repellency, anti-stickness, wear resistance and durability.
About PROPLANET
The project aims to develop novel coating materials, tackling the problem from a circularity perspective, resulting in cost-effective, high-functional, sustainable and safe solutions aiming to substitute current fluorine-based PFAS-type (per- and polyfluoroalkyl) coatings.
The main goal of PROPLANET is to design and optimise 3 innovative coatings for industrial sectors, including:
> Textiles
> Food packaging machinery
> Glass for solar panels.
On textiles is expected to develop water and oil repellent coatings based on crosslinked biopolymers-microcapsules dispersed in polysaccharide matrix. For the anti-stick, anti-corrosion and enhanced wear resistance coatings on metal parts, the use of hybrid siloxane biobased coatings is envisaged. Last, but not least, hybrid siloxane coatings will provide anti-reflecting and anti-soiling properties on glass and solar panels.
