REGULATORY FRAMEWORK

Companies wishing to manufacture food contact materials within the European Union must prove, through a series of documents and laboratory tests, that the product represents no danger to consumer health and safety. The product must not contain harmful substances nor transmit abnormal odours or flavours to the food.

FOOD CONTACT MATERIALS

Products such as aprons, tablecloths, ham covers and strings, water filters, yarn and meshes for sausages, conveyor belts, non-woven material for teabags, bibs, cloths, reusable sandwich bags, or clothing for the food industry: in short, any material that may come into contact with food must comply with legislative requirements for analysis, labelling and associated documentation.

LABORATORY TESTING OF FOOD CONTACT MATERIALS

> – Global migrations in LMT food simulants: distilled water, simulant A (10% ethanol), simulant B (3% acetic), simulant D2 (vegetable oil or substitutes), Tenax for dry food and other alcoholic concentrations.
> – Specific migrations according to the type of chemical compound contained in the SML material: heavy metals and primary amines.
> – Organoleptic tests (odour and taste)
> – Verification tests for the reuse of packaging.
