This was the first time that a trail race has taken in so many towns along its route: starting at Alcoy and going through eleven of the fourteen towns that make up the Mancomunitat de l`Alcoià y el Comtat: Banyeres de Mariola, Cocentaina, Muro de Alcoy, Penàguila, Benasau, Quatretondeta, Planes, Millena, Gorga, Beniarrés, Alcoleja, Agres and Benifallim and passing through the mountains of Vall d’Albaida and Marina Baixa.

The AITEX Terra Trail is a charity event, with all proceeds going to the Valencian ALS Association.

The 1st AITEX Terra Trail culminates by putting Alcoy firmly on the map of high mountain sports

This weekend saw the first ever AITEX Terra Trail, the first high mountain race of the regions of l’Alcoià, el Comtat, la Vall d’Albaida and la Marina Baixa. Over a thousand runners took part in the four categories; 162km, 44km, 21km and 7km vertical over three intense days of running that have put Alcoy firmly on the international mountain trail running map.

In spite of the weather this weekend, the four races were completed without difficulty thanks to the checkpoints, beacons, refreshments and breaks. We would like to thank the more than four hundred volunteers from Civil Protection, the Red Cross, Fire Brigade and Local Police, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the participants were able to complete their races.

The closing ceremony was attended by Alberto Belda, Sports Councillor for the Alcoy City Council; León Grau, President of AITEX; Vicente Blanes, AITEX General Manager and David Miró, coordinator of the AITEX Terra Trail, and other representatives of the Alcoy City Council.
