On 3 September 2021, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a public consultation for the 26th update of the REACH candidate list. The public consultation will end on 18 October 2021.

The following table lists the proposed chemicals, the reasons and their main applications.

SUBSTANCE CAS NO. (EC) APLICATIONS

Used in cosmetics and personal care products.

6,6′-di-terc-butil-2,2′-metilendi-p-cresol (DBMC) 119-47-1

(204-327-1)

Used in adhesives, sealants, lubricants, greases, fuels, hydraulic fluids, polymers, metalworking fluids;

It is used in the manufacture of rubber and plastic products;

Used as a laboratory chemist.

S- (triciclo [5.2.1.0’2,6] deca-3-en-8 (o 9) -il) O- (isopropilo o isobutilo o 2-etilhexil) O- (isopropilo o isobutilo o 2-etilhexil) fosforoditioato 255881-94-8

(401-850-9)

Used in the treatment of non-metallic surfaces;

Used in sealants;

Used in the manufacture of rubber and plastic;

Used as a monomer in the production of silicone polymers and silicone resins;

Used as a laboratory chemist.

In addition, on 15 September, ECHA published two new proposals submitted by Canada and the United Kingdom to the Stockholm Convention:

SUBSTANCE CAS NO. (EC)
Chlorinated paraffins with carbon chain lengths in the range C14-17 and chlorination levels equal to or greater than 45% chlorine by weight -(-)
Long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids, their salts and related compounds -(-)

In addition, the EU proposal for chlorpyrifos (EC 220-864-4, CAS 2921-88-2) has recently been submitted to the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention.

The Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee will review these proposals in January 2022.
