THE INTERREG SUDOE- NABITEX PROJECT INNOVATIVE TECHNICAL TEXTILES

by

Innovative technical textiles, developed from natural fibre for use in the home.

The core goal of the NABITEX project is to promote the cultivation, transformation and subsequent application of natural fibres from the SUDOE region (South of France, Spain and Portugal). In this respect, the focus has been on the investigation of the process of obtaining plant fibre from species such as hemp, esparto and common cane. Technical applications with a high added-value factor are being studied in the habitat and construction sectors for materials derived from these plant fibres.

Currently, the project is at a very early stage and consists of the development of an exhaustive study into the possibilities of growing hemp and esparto, and extracting the fibre.

Any technical and legal requirements have also been identified which may affect developments using these types of fibre.

Work has also begun on improving the fire resistance of textiles and composites derived from hemp and esparto fibre.
