R&D OF SMART TEXTILE-BASED SENSORISED SMART STRUCTURES FOR SMART CITIES
CITISENS
Motivation
Smart City incorporate information technologies to interconnect the different elements they contain to enhance infrastructures, thereby improving the quality of life of the citizens who live there and making them active participants. Among the main technologies and aspects that make up the smart city concept are waste management, transport management, sustainable energy generation, public safety, health management and city lighting.
It is estimated that, in the coming years, smart cities market will continue to grow and even double the figure reached in 2020. This upward trend makes CITISENS a project that will cover many sectors and encompasses a multitude of end applications that can be integrated into cities, so that the results obtained can reach a large number of companies.
Objectives
• Research and development of sensorised textile-based smart structures for Smart Cities and urban mobility.
• Develop technologies applicable to textile or textile-based structures that allow cities to move towards data-driven models in a fast, safe and economical way.
• Develop textiles in combination with other composite materials capable of monitoring the state of the part from a structural point of view.
• Develop textile structures capable of monitoring different parameters and develop actuators that can be integrated into textile materials to improve safety, comfort, quality of life and the efficiency of services.
Value and competitive advantage
-
The Connected Urban Greenhouse enables crop managers to optimize real-time decision-making, reduce unnecessary electricity and water costs, and enhance the sustainability of food production in urban settings.
-
The Speaker Cushion ensures the comfort and durability of the cushion while preserving the original flexibility of the fabric, offering a comfortable and technologically advanced product for the modern user.
-
The Sensorized Urban Furniture provides comfortable seating and also contributes to the city’s energy efficiency by adjusting lighting according to real-time light conditions, offering additional functionalities based on presence detection.
Results obtained.
-
Connected urban greenhouse capable of monitoring environmental, meteorological, and crop variables with the aim of controlling actuators such as the irrigation pump or ventilation system.
-
Cushion with an integrated speaker using embroidery technology.
Sensorized urban furniture that combines functionality and technology to provide an enhanced experience for users in outdoor spaces.
-
Sensorized seat with a curved flat structure in the shape of a chair, featuring Tailored Fiber
-
Placement embroidery and integration of real-time structural health monitoring technologies, connected via mobile devices.
