Research and development of three-dimensional self-adhesive structures for indoor use with improved acoustic properties.
STICKYSOUND
Motivations
When the COVID 19 pandemic shook the world, it made us reflect on our priorities in life.
One of the main consequences of the tragedy was the need for comfortable, somewhat isolated homes where families feel comfortable and safe.
The need for comfort can be met by providing indoor spaces with ways of separating spaces to give the occupants a sense of protection and well-being.
Objectives
Development of three-dimensional structures for use on vertical indoor surfaces by means of TUFTING weaving technology and subsequent application of adhesives by means of LABIO FUSOR and LAMINATOR technologies that will allow us to fix them on surfaces vertical.
For the development of the project, commercially available yarns, adhesives and supports will be selected, structures that provide better acoustic results will be studied and relevant adhesion studies will be carried out, as well as acoustics that demonstrate that the application of such structures improves the acoustic conditions of the passenger compartments where they are installed.
Value and competitive advantage
-
The carpet facing fiber with the highest acoustic properties is POLYAMIDE.
-
The 3D DIAGONAL POLYAMIDE sample, used as a facing and backed with 1.9 mm thick rubber (DANOSA MAD2 reference), achieves satisfactory results in acoustic characterization, both in absorption and insulation.
-
There are two bonding phases between the materials: carpet attachment using the permanent adhesive TERMOFLEX V-787 TYPE 2 and a self-adhesive with protective paper on the back for application on walls or vertical surfaces, using the adhesive *PSA Swift melt 2848*.
Results obtained
-
Development and study of composition and binding structures through tufting technology for producing three-dimensional carpets and all their possible combinations.
-
Replacement of the secondary backing in three-dimensional carpets with acoustic functionality.
-
With the characterization of adhesives, various types of hot melt adhesives have been applied.
-
Characterization and validation of the final prototype developed according to the acoustic standard UNE-EN ISO 10140.
