Advanced manufacturing, smart textiles and digitalisation
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF SYSTEMS FOR THE INTEGRATION OF COMPONENTS IN TEXTILE PRODUCTS IN THE FIELD OF FASHION AND HABITAT.
FASHION TECH
Motivation
As electronic components become more compact, flexible and efficient, the potential for e-textiles is increasing, which means the value of everyday objects is increasing too. Today’s designers are looking for new ways to express their creativity and stand out and technology is one way they can provide limitless possibilities of customisation and innovation.
In the field of fashion technology (display pieces) and the contract and decoration sector, the integration of smart textiles offers a wide range of possibilities and while the technology is in most cases already available, the main challenge lies in connecting it seamlessly. We undoubtedly still have a long way to go and it is still an investment in the future, and one facing several hurdles: high cost, usability and durability and potential safety concerns and the difficulties of automating their manufacture are chief among them.
Objectives
- Development of garments with actuators (LEDs, fibre optics, servos and loudspeakers) that react to fixed stimuli and biological parameters of the wearer, such as pulse, and that can be easily customized into unique garments.
- Development of articles for the home that include technological functions such as nfc antennas, heaters, charging points and presence sensors.
- Design of enclosures to suit different curves and surfaces according to shape and size requirements.
- Application of eco-design techniques to smart textiles taking into account the concept of recyclability/circularity.
Expected results
- Obtain samples showing the wide variety of perfectly integrated actuators that can be obtained by embroidering conductive threads, printing of electronic inks and additive manufacturing (3D printing)
- Develop and obtain final prototypes for contract and decoration that include the most interesting technologies for this sector.
- Develop and obtain final prototypes for technological fashion, focusing on garments designed for the catwalk and exhibitions, which include the most interesting technologies for this sector.
