WORLD RUGBY ARTIFICIAL TURF CERTIFICATE
WHAT IS THE WORLD RUGBY CERTIFICATE?
World Rugby is an international rugby federation made up of more than 120 allied national federations, with more than 10 million players worldwide.
The federation ensures that artificial turf surfaces used for rugby competitions meet standard quality parameters and provide a good playing environment. World Rugby has a testing programme that assesses surface interaction with the ball and the player, and the durability and environmental resistance of the products.
The World Rugby certificate guarantees that an artificial turf is suitable for rugby regardless of climate, maintaining optimum quality and durability and ensuring the correct interaction between the pitch, ball and players.
In accordance with the World Rugby Federation Regulations, any artificial turf used for competitive Rugby at all levels of the game must comply with the Regulations and be accredited by a World Rugby-approved centre.
AITEX WORLD RUGBY ACCREDITED LABORATORY
AITEX is one of the network of laboratories worldwide which are approved by the International Rugby Federation World Rugby for the homologation of artificial turf rugby pitches. It audits the quality of rugby pitches in accordance with the federation’s current regulations.
World Rugby-approved centres test artificial rugby pitches to maintain the quality and durability of the pitch and ensure good sporting practice.

HOW DOES THE WORLD RUGBY CERTIFICATION PROCESS FOR ARTIFICIAL TURF OPERATE?
The certification process for a rugby sports surface is in two phases: firstly, a product testing phase in the laboratory and secondly, an evaluation of the product in situ for field trials.
If the test results meet all requirements, the artificial turf is approved to meet the durability and quality requirements of World Rugby.
RUGBY FIELD TESTS
BALL-SURFACE REACTION TESTS
> Vertical ball bounce
> Flatness
PLAYER REACTION TESTS ON THE SURFACE
These tests are of special relevance, as they simulate the interaction of the user of the sports surface on the surface, determining whether the pitch is suitable and safe for the physical integrity of the player.
> Shock absorption
> Deformation
> Rotational resistance
> Restitution energy
> HIC (critical fall height)
PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION ON RAW MATERIALS
> Pile pull-out
> Pile height
> Stitches
> Title (Dtex)
> Lamellar mass
> Pile thickness
> Filler characterisation (particle size, bulk density and particle shape)
> Water permeability
> Determination of TGA thermal behaviour (Rubber)
> Polymer identification by DSC
